A market with fierce competition and one store clearly in the lead.
The French eCommerce market generated a revenue of almost €46bn in 2018 and thus ranks among the most important markets in Europe in terms of revenue. With a projected revenue CAGR1 of more than 7%, this situation will not change in the future. Over €11.4bn were generated by the top 10 online stores in France. This accounts for approximately 25% of the total eCommerce market. Amazon (in the form of amazon.fr) is the leader of the top 10 ranking in France. With more than €2.8bn, the generalist generated one quarter of the total top 10 revenue in France in 2018. Cdiscount.com takes the second place with a revenue of €1.9bn. Fashion specialist vente-privee.com comes in third. Both online stores are separated by only a few million euros. The three leading online stores in France account for approximately 60% of the top 10 ranking. Six out of these ten online stores offer so-called cross-border shipping. This means that they also deliver to addresses outside of France. The most important categories include Electronics & Media, Fashion, and Food & Personal Care.
