Online stores with large sales are growing strongly while smaller stores are losing out
The top 50 online stores in the Alpine countries are experiencing growth. From 2017 to 2018, the top 50 online stores in Austria generated an average revenue development of 52% and those in Switzerland an average revenue development of 37%.
The further online stores move away from the top group, the lower their growth.
The growth rate for the stores ranking between 151-200 amounts to 5% in Switzerland and is stagnating in Austria at 0.6%, while the stores ranking between 201-250 actually experiences negative growth at -2% in Austria and -14% in Switzerland.
The markets are therefore concentrating more and more around the top groups at the expense of smaller online stores.
