The age of second-hand consumers
Who buys the most re-commerce items and where are the items bought?
Before diving into the analysis of the consumers’ age, we are taking a look at the purchase behavior in form of average items purchased.
On comparing online- and offline purchases, clear differences are recognizable although the distribution itself is comparable. Around one-third has not bought an used item within the last three month – no matter if off- or online – yet, while roughly 20 percent purchased more than five items. Nevertheless, the average item number differs clearly. Online, the respondents purchased in average 4,2 items within the last three months. A number that is almost doubled by offline purchased made within the last three months with an average of 7,9 items. With an average of 7,6 items online and 12,6 items offline, consumers in the age from 18 to 29 years purchased the most within re-commerce during the last three months. Respondents between the age of 30 and 59 purchased 3,9 online items and 6,5 offline items in average. Interesting characteristics when looking at the age group of 60 years and older: although they only purchased 2,3 used items in average within the last three month they purchased 7,0 items offline.
