Mobile devices catch up with computers

In the UK, the share of online orders placed via mobile devices has reached 52%

According to the Salesforce Shopping Index, the share of orders placed via mobile devices is steadily growing everywhere. In the first quarter of 2017, the share of orders via mobile devices was 32%; in 2019, this figure rose by 14 percentage points to 46%. Thus, the use of mobile devices for online shopping has become just as frequent as the use of computers.

The global trend of using mobile devices for online shopping can be observed worldwide. With 52%, the UK ranks first when it comes to using mobile devices for online shopping, closely followed by Spain with 50%. Both countries are slightly above the global average. In the U.S., orders made via mobile devices still make up less than half of all orders (46%).

Note: The Salesforce Shopping Index analyzes the activity of more than 500 million shoppers in 37 countries worldwide.

Any forecasts noted in the Shopping Index are forward-looking projections based on current and prior values. To qualify for inclusion in the analysis set, a digital commerce site must have transacted throughout the analysis period – in this case from Q1 2017 to Q1 2019 – and they must have met a monthly minimum visit threshold.
