Reaching 39 European Countries: Amazon's Export Central tool allows sellers on its platform to export their products to a wider range of European countries. The service is included in FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon), while MFN customers (Merchant Fulfilled Network) need to pay a surcharge.
Strengthening Smaller Domains: Not only does the launch of this program help Amazon reach a wider range of customers in countries where it does not have an own domain, but it accelerates marketplace activity of smaller Amazon domains, which tend to be overshadowed by amazon.com.
Amazon launched its Export Central tool on September 12th, which allows sellers to offer their listings on Amazon to a wider audience. More precisely, this tool provides an export service to 39 countries in Europe, including those that do not have their own Amazon domain, such as Austria, Portugal and Greece. The Export Central tool is available to merchants selling on Amazon in six key markets: United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. (The only export country available for the Netherlands is Belgium.)
The Export Central program is available to all sellers on the platform, whether they typically use Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) or conduct their logistics operations independently (MFN: Merchant Fulfilled Network). However, the tool is automatically included in FBA customers' subscriptions, while MFN sellers must pay extra to use the service.
Amazon Is Expanding Its Reach Across Europe
A look at Amazon’s top 10 marketplace domains by GMV (gross merchandise volume) shows that five out of the six markets in the Export Center tool are in the top 10.
Of these, amazon.co.uk and amazon.de generated the highest GMV in 2023, at US$62.8 billion and US$61.1 billion, respectively. The company’s French, Italian and Spanish domains are at the bottom of the list, while amazon.nl did not make the top 10 at all.

The move can be interpreted as an effort by Amazon not only to extend its reach across the continent and cement its position as a top eCommerce retailer and online marketplace. It also serves to strengthen existing domains and increase respective marketplace activity, as amazon.com clearly leads the GMV generated by other domains.
Customer-centricity and merchant services have long been a hallmark of Amazon, and the introduction of the Export Center Program is a way to reach more customers while expanding the reach of merchants.
