Brazil is one of the largest countries in the Americas – not only by surface and population, but also from an eCommerce point of view. With its large population and a steadily growing eCommerce user penetration, Brazil was among the 15 biggest eCommerce markets worldwide by total revenue in 2021. Beating Mexico by a small margin, Brazil is the leading eCommerce market in Latin America with a total revenue of US$41 billion in 2021. The ranking of the biggest online stores by total net sales generated in Brazil is currently led by local players: The top 3 – magazineluiza.com.br, casasbahia.com.br, and americanas.com.br – are all Brazilian brands. Amazon follows in rank 4. The top 4 online stores in Brazil generated between US$1.8 billion and US$3.2 billion in net sales in 2021 and registered substantial year-on-year growth in the higher double-digit ranges. Yet the growth champions in the Brazilian online store landscape are found beyond the top 10:

With 31%, the year-on-year growth rate of Brazil’s leading online store by total net sales magazineluiza.com.br might already sound impressive. A look into lower ranks however reveals that this is exceeded many times over by certain smaller players. The Brazilian URL of Singaporean brand Shopee is the undisputed winner of the growth comparison: shopee.com.br grew by a stunning 350% between 2020 and 2021, leaving Brazilian player soubarato.com.br far behind, with its still more than overwhelming year-on-year net sales growth of 205%. The two stores are in ranks 31 and 54 in the comparison of the biggest online stores in Brazil by total net sales, respectively. The Brazilian online pharmacy drogaraia.com.br is in rank three of the fastest-growing online stores in Brazil, still more than doubling its net sales between 2020 and 2021 with a growth of 152%. And – together with apple.com – drogaraia.com is the only online store in this comparison which also ranks among the top 20 biggest online stores by total net sales. Ranks 4 to 10 in the growth comparison achieved year-on-year growth rates which are closer together – between 48% and 85% between 2020 and 2021.
