A Statista Consumer Insights survey in the UK asked participants about their purchase history in the last 12 months to identify the top 10 online product categories for different age groups based on their responses.
Based on the data of DIY & Garden Products, it can be deduced that 30% of purchasers in this category fall within the age range of 55 to 64 years. Additionally, respondents aged between 45 and 54 years represent the second largest proportion of shoppers in this category, accounting for 27%.
The category Cosmetics & Body Care is dominated by 26% of consumers who are between the ages of 35 and 44. Similarly, the category Books, Movies, Music & Games features the same percentage (26%) of shoppers, but with a slightly older age group of 45 to 54 years. In general, the youngest generation in the cohort, the 18- to 24-year-old respondents, makes up the smallest percentage in most of the listed product groups, ranging from 4% in the category DIY & Garden Products to up to 19% in Bags & Accessories.
In contrast, the 55- to 64-year-old online shoppers have the smallest representation Bags & Accessories, with only 11% of consumers having made purchases in the last year.
