A survey by Statista Consumer Insights asked online shoppers in Ireland about the product categories that they have purchased in the past year. The results are distributed on respondent gender as shown below.
There is a clear tendency toward female consumption, as 8 out of the 10 top product categories for online shopping have higher shares of female purchasers.
The two product categories that are preferred by male shoppers are Consumer Electronics and Sports & Outdoor Products. 56% of online shoppers who have bought Consumer Electronics are male, as with 57% of consumers who have bought Sports & Outdoor Products.
The remaining categories all skew toward female consumers. Cosmetics & Body Care is the most clearly biased category in that regard with a female ratio of 77%. Others range from 54% in Household Appliances to 65% in Drugstore & Health Products.
