K5 Future Retail Conference: Recap of The eCommerce Meetup in Berlin
K5 Conference Berlin 2024: eCommerce Trends
ECDB visited the K5 Conference 2024 in Berlin. Here are the latest insights and eCommerce trends from the German capitol.
Article by Patrick Nowak | June 25, 2024Berlin's Estrel Hotel is full of marketers, eCommerce experts, and various companies showing off their products as the K5 Future Retail Conference begins.
The official agenda focuses on sharing knowledge and professional networking, but the real essence of the event is a mix of socializing, deal-making, and industry matchmaking. It’s like professional dating, where the right connections can lead to collaborations – because that's what it's all about, right?
From Sonnenallee to the Estrel Hotel
Getting off the S-Bahn at Sonnenallee, the surroundings seem typical of a Berlin neighborhood – a mix of old Eastern Bloc buildings and Döner shops. But just a short walk away stands the Estrel Hotel, the venue for K5. Inside, the mix of deodorants, perfumes, and buzzwords on display can be overwhelming. The conference area is lively with stages, ping-pong tables, food and drinks, speakers, parties, and the usual struggle with spotty internet connectivity – a standard at every trade show. So what makes this K5 so unique?
What Is The K5? Stages, Masterclasses, and Expo Halls
The conference features five main stages where notable speakers share insights into the latest trends and success stories in eCommerce. Speakers include Kai Hudetz from IFH Köln, Saskia Roch of ECC Next, Gerald Schönbucher from Kaufland E-Commerce, and Markus Schöberl from Amazon.
Attendees can join over 50 masterclasses on various topics. The expo halls, with over 200 exhibitors, showcase the latest technologies and innovations in eCommerce.
Networking and Social Events
Networking is a core part of K5. From speed networking to casual chats over a drink, there are many opportunities to make valuable connections. Highlights include the "K5 Connect Party" and the traditional Bavarian breakfast "Weißwurstfrühstück powered by Develey". For those looking to unwind, "Bier ab 4" provides a relaxed setting to end the day with a beer.
K5: Key Theses and Discussions
The conference began with industry theses from thought leaders. Johannes Altmann emphasized inclusivity and AI’s critical role in e-commerce with these points:
The desire for inclusion is our opportunity in uncertain times.
We can't learn from Temu, Shein & Co.; our value creation must differ.
If you don't use AI, you have a problem; if you do, you still face challenges.
Vivien Wysocki predicted a the growing importance of internationalization, and the critical role of cybersecurity.
