A study by Statista Consumer Insights sheds light on German consumers' attitudes towards eCommerce. The results show that before making a purchase, 58% of consumers do online research for major purchases, emphasizing the significance of having a robust online presence for businesses and offering extensive product information. Additionally, 48% of survey participants find customer reviews on the internet to be extremely helpful, emphasizing the impact of customer feedback on buying decisions.
The survey also shows that 25% of consumers prefer to physically examine an item before buying, while 15% miss the in-person shopping experience when shopping online. This suggests that while online shopping has become more accessible, it still cannot fully replace the traditional shopping experience. On the other hand, 30% of the respondents reported that they typically place recurring orders using their smartphones or tablets.
Regarding delivery, 15% of the respondents prefer express shipping, while 12% want to hold the item in their hands on the same day. The findings also point out that 16% of respondents sometimes deliberately order more items than they intend to keep.
