Age Distribution of Online Shopping Categories in the Netherlands

The 2022 Statista Consumer Insights asked online shoppers in the Netherlands which product categories they have purchased online in the last year. The top 10 categories were then distributed by respondent age groups. Results show that the 45-54 age group accounts for the largest shares in most product categories, followed by respondents aged between 25 and 34.

Respondents aged 45 to 54 have shares in the categories that range from 17% in Bags & Accessories to 31% in Pet Products. The age group with the next largest shares, that is the 25- to 35-year-old respondents, make up between 17% in Pet Products to 30% in Bags & Accessories.

Users aged 35 to 44 years account for shares that range from 20% in entertainment media and Bags & Accessories to 24% in Food & Drinks. The youngest cohort of respondents between 18 and 24 years have the lowest shares overall, including 8% in Household Appliances to 21% in Bags & Accessories. The oldest age group of users from 55 to 64 years account for 12% in Bags & Accessories to 26% in Pet Products.
